Personal Research Journey

I decided to research how to be a better resource to the families that I work with and to my community.  I have found that parents are stumped when it comes to certain areas of their children's lives.  They often find it difficult to locate other parents or teachers that can share their compassion for situations that they are going through.  What they don't realize is that their child didn't break the mold and there are plenty of other parents sharing the same issues.

Through the Walden University website I was able to type in "Parent Resources" and I found lots of different topics that were helpful not only to parents but to me as a teacher as well.  Some of the article that I read are:

I think these would be helpful to anyone that has these same situations.  Please let me know if you have any further information that would help me in my research journey.

  1. DeWana: I think your topic is an excellent one. I really believe that family and community engagement is instrumental to building student success! Families should be aware of resources that are available to them in the community; yet sadly, many families are not unaware of these resources. I think your research will not only inform you, it will also strengthen your professional development!

  2. It is important for families and parents to have others to communicate with. They need to have someone is similar situations to talk to about whatever they are dealing with. Parents often feel alone and would find it helpful to have someone in their community to talk to. This is a great topic you have chosen to discuss.

  3. DeWana, I think that this is a great topic. Sometimes parents feel overwhelmed and its as if the wheel is being re-created as they try to find solutions to their problems.
As a parent myself, I think it would be great if the resources are in "normal" language and not research type language so that parents feel at ease when reading and are able to understand the concepts clearly.

  4. This is a good topic. I will add these resources to my stock pile of articles and websites. I am writing teacher trainer courses and communicating with families is something that many preschool teachers struggle with. I plan to write training on effective communication techniques I look forward to read you future postings on the topic throughout the quarter
